One of our most popular features is domain mapping. This allows Hosts to use your own web domain instead of the default mn.co subdomain. Domain mapping also includes additional benefits, like improved internet search rankings and SEO.

First, you'll need to secure your domain name. If you don't already have one, you can purchase one from a domain provider. GoDaddy and DNSimple are both good options.

If you choose to use a domain provider, you can activate your purchased domain in 3 easy steps.

For the purpose of this lesson, let’s assume that you purchased the domain example.com

We map your Mighty Network using CNAME records or A records (explained below), so the first step is deciding if you’d like to use a subdomain or map to your root domain.

A subdomain is a prefix that goes before your domain (like www). You can choose any prefix you'd like. The root domain is simply your domain name itself (example.com) without any prefix in front of it.

Some popular prefixes are "community" (community.example.com), "members" (members.example.com), or "app" (app.example.com). The default "www" (www.example.com) works too!

If you choose members as your prefix, your subdomain will be members.example.com. This will become the URL used to access your Mighty Network.

You only need to map either a root domain (A Record) or a subdomain (CNAME) to your Mighty Network, you don’t need to map both.

Though this may sound intimidating, it's pretty simple.

If you’re mapping to a subdomain, you’ll use a CNAME record, and your domain provider (we've used GoDaddy for the sample below, but you might also use a service like Hover, Namecheap, or DNSimple) will ask you for these two fields:

Note: If you are setting up your domain through Cloudflare, you must toggle the “Proxy status” to “DNS only” by clicking the cloud icon.

If you’re mapping to your root domain, you’ll use an A Record, and your domain provider (we've used GoDaddy for the sample below, but you might also use a service like Hover, Bluehost, Namecheap, or DNSimple) will ask you for these fields:

After saving, you’ll repeat this process one more time to create a second A record with the same “@” for Host, but this time using the IP address “147.185.161.78”

Some providers may offer the ability for you to enter multiple IP addresses in the same A Record (not needing to create two separate A Records). In that case, you can simply enter “147.185.161.78” in that second input.

Here’s a sample of both A Records set up properly in GoDaddy:

Under Paste Your Domain Here, enter the full domain your Members will see when they access your Mighty Network. What this looks like depends on whether you set up a CNAME record or an A record:

​CNAME record: type your subdomain.yourdomain.com (example: members.yourdomain.com or www.yourdomain.com)

​A record: type only yourdomain.com

Note: After adjusting your domain settings with your provider, you may need to wait a few hours for the changes to take effect before proceeding with this step.

The final step is to log into your Mighty Network and navigate to Network Settings > Integrations > Network Domain > Use Your Own Domain. Click on "Get Started" and follow the instructions.

The mapping will take some time to finish, but you don't need to stay on the page. We'll send you a notification once it's complete.

Once the mapping is finished, go to Network Settings > Integrations > Network Domain > Use Your Own Domain and click Activate Your Domain:

Depending on the domain provider that you use (i.e. Namecheap), it may take a couple of hours for the domain to activate. If your domain hasn't been accepted within 48 hours, please reach out to us directly and we'll work with you to complete this process.

Please note that subdirectories such as "example.com/subdirectory" are not currently supported.

If you would like your website to be mapped by a root domain (community.com) and a subdomain (www.community.com) then you will need to set up a redirect with your domain provider.

Here are some services you may use and their instructions on how to set up the redirect:

Go Daddy, Hover, Bluehost, Namecheap, or DNSimple.

This process does differ across the domain providers and some domain providers (like Wix) do not have an easy way of doing this. You may need to use a third-party redirect service such as EasyRedir. This method typically includes the option of having HTTPS supported with the redirect depending on the service provider.

GoDaddy has the most straightforward 301 permanent redirect setup which you can set up in the Forwarding section, right below the DNS records section:

If, for any reason, you need to disconnect your domain mapping entirely from your Mighty Network and revert to using your Mighty Network's subdomain, you will need to contact support first. Then, our team can assist with making this happen.

If you invite your Members through a Share Link under the mn.co Domain name, then this Share Link will be valid even after you switch to a Custom Domain. The original mn.co Domain will still be active and will redirect to the Custom Domain.

On the other hand, if you invite your Members through a Share Link under a Custom Domain and then switch to a new Custom Domain, then the Share Link will stop working. If going from a Custom Domain to a new Custom Domain, the old bookmarked links won’t work.

Make sure to send invitations after you make the switch from one Custom Domain to another.
